Gabriela Martinez wins REMAKE REMOTE contest

During the spring 2020 semester, REMAKE held a contest where it asked first-year undergraduate students to answer the question “So what does distance mean to you?” Any original work (art, stories, essays, poems, etc.) on the theme of distance was accepted.

On June 18, 2020 it was announced that first-year student Gabriela Martinez was the contest winner with her poem “Dear Papá”. Martinez’s poem will be published in the first issue of REMAKE, coming later this summer.

Other finalists in the contest include: Terrell Reed, “Social Distance”; Marc Ridgell, “10,000 Steps”; and Quinn Wai Wong, “Alone at Sea”.

REMAKE is a first-year journal published by the College Writing Program that “showcase[s] how first-year work—everything from art to research to creative writing—changes the conversation by challenging our assumptions, rethinking our ideas, and giving new shape to the perspectives we hold and the stories we tell.” Find out more at https://remake.wustl.edu/
