Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Undergraduate Student Application

Who are we?
The CWP’s Committee for DEI is a collaborative effort bringing together faculty, students, and administration to support our mission of cultivating a diverse community of writing at WashU. We are interested in long-term, sustainable change, which begins with recognizing institutional histories of power, inequity, and exclusion and using that knowledge to support and develop inclusive writing communities at all levels—from the classroom to the university and beyond.

What’s our mission?
We serve the college writing community at WashU and the many stakeholders invested in what it means to write here. Our aim is to cultivate a diverse, supportive, and empowering community of writing through individual and communal growth; through advocacy for marginalized voices; and through the sustained creation of inclusive learning environments and equitable learning outcomes.

How can you get involved?
The college writing community is made up of many different voices and perspectives, especially the students and faculty who work and learn together in our classrooms every day. As a committee, it’s vital for us to bring those voices and perspectives together. If you are a current undergraduate student with an interest in writing and WashU’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we want your help! You can apply below to become a committee member and represent the needs and ideas of undergraduate writers at WashU. Read more about our committee here.
